Named Careers Lead: Mrs Roberts
Colmers School and Sixth Form College aims to prepare every student for life after Colmers. We intend to equip students to make effective, informed and considered decisions about themselves and their future. We work closely with a range of partners and outside agencies, (employers, colleges, and Training providers) to inspire our students and to continuously raise their aspirations.
Our robust and varied Careers Education programme (CEIAG) plays a huge part in this ongoing process.
With all children having to remain in education or training until they are 18, Colmers provides a comprehensive CEIAG programme for all pupils within PSHE, a weekly session delivered by form tutors. The whole curriculum timetable is linked to career choices. In addition, we organise a programme of activities with local providers such as assemblies, university visits, employer talks and careers/college fayres. As well as this your child will be offered1-1, relevant up-to-date careers advice and guidance from our in-house Level 6 qualified careers advisor.
All pupils have access to the Careers Library that is currently housed in the school library. This includes information on Apprenticeship, Traineeship, Sixth Form and Colleges. This is designed to help students in making post-16 choices. (Key stage 5 prospectuses are housed in the sixth form study centre).
We have a Careers Lead working full time ensuring our careers programme runs smoothly. The Careers Lead Mrs Roberts is available from 8.00am until 4.00pm during the school day to provide students with information and support.
Students are free to contact Mrs Roberts for additional one-to-one or small group interviews if required.

Below there are 4 useful links for both students’ parents and carers. These links are an extra source of information in supporting your child in preparing for choosing their options, whilst doing their GCSE’s and Post 16.
The ‘first careers’ website is a fantastic site for students to look at their favourite subjects and see what careers they could pursue. It has an a-z of careers with videos from professionals working in their field who will tell you what it’s like and what skills you need to bring to the job.
The second website ’skills for careers’, has a wealth of information for parents on how to support their child choosing their GCSE subjects, how to start the important conversations with your child around careers and making decisions. This website also has information for students just about to leave school or just about to start University.
The third website ‘careermap’ has lots of magazines for both parents and students looking at different topics each month. There are also current jobs and apprenticeships and an a-z of company information on this site.
The fourth link ‘National Careers Service’ offers support to parents of children with an SEN, with advice and services available in making those post 16 decisions with your child. Support that a child can expect whether they go onto Sixth Form, College, Apprenticeship, Traineeship or work. Support for students with or without an EHCP.
