The Colmers Library provides a space for students to work and read independently during free time in their school day. Students can:

    • Check library books out to take home from Mrs Ward
    • Use tailored revision resources, textbooks, and reference books to support their studies
    • Use a laptop to do homework and research
    • Read, revise, and do homework in a quiet environment
    • Get careers and future development advice from Miss Cookson
    • Donate pre-loved books to become part of the school library or our community library

    School Librarians:

Colmers’ Library has a number of student librarians from across all seven year groups, who work during scheduled lunchtime periods to help keep our Library and Study Centre a positive and productive environment whilst learning valuable skills such as time management and team work. Their tasks include:

    • Organising books
    • Writing book reviews
    • Researching new books
    • Helping to create themed displays
    • Helping students find books

    BookBuzz:

In the 2023/2024 school year, Colmers took part in the Book Buzz programme. This allowed every Year 7 and 8 students to choose a book from a selection of 17 to take home and keep for free. The 17 books were handpicked by literacy and literary experts at Book Trust, and included dyslexic-friendly, non-fiction, and diverse options to ensure there was something for everyone. Our students took them home at the very end of the Winter Term, giving them access to a brand-new book to read over the holiday period.

    World Book Day 2024

This year with the fantastic efforts of Mrs Ward, Mrs WIlliams and the finance team who scoured every local and not so local bookshop and supermarket. We were able to give our year 7, 8 and 9 students physical copies of the world book day books. Year 10 and 11 received their world book day voucher.
