The Gatsby Foundation conducted research which showed that parents and carers “have the greatest influence on young people’s career choices, outweighing the impact of teachers, friends, and even careers advisors.” Despite this, many parents feel they don’t have enough information to be able to support their child when making option choices, post 16 and post 18 decisions.

When should my child start applying to college/Sixth Forms and Apprenticeships and University
All students will start to have 1-1 interviews with the careers advisor at school from the October they start year 11. This is when students will start to apply to Colleges and Sixth Forms.
In the April/May in year 11 they can start to look at applying to apprenticeships with a start date after July.
Year 13 students will be supported through the process of completing personal statements, choosing their courses and applying for University or Higher level apprenticeships with the help of their form tutors and Head and Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Year 12 and 13 students can also make appointments with the careers advisor.
Parents results day information,
Collect your results and see if you have the grades to enrol onto the course you have applied for.
Log on to the college/sixth form website, upload your results and check their enrolment times. You must enrol asap to ensure you get a place on the course you want. If you do not enrol when you are told to do so your place may be offered to someone else.
If you have not got the grades for our chosen course then you can contact the college to explore alternative options, the colleges are usually open on results day so you can take your results to the college and they will suggest the best route for you to take.
